Grove City charges past Thomas More, 74-64

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team rallied from a 32-25 halftime deficit to earn a 74-64 home victory over Thomas More Wednesday night in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Arena. The Wolverines are now 9-4 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

Grove City shot 14 of 21 (67 percent) from the field in the second half while outscoring the Saints 49-32 over the final 20 minutes. The Wolverines also committed just nine turnovers in the win.

Senior guard Ryan Gerber (Baltic, Ohio/Garaway) came off the bench to fire in a season-high 16 points for Grove City. Senior guard Shawn Carr (New Castle, Pa./Mohawk) also fired in 16 points, including four three-point goals. Junior guard Ryan Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) added 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting while sophomore center Andy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) tossed in a dozen points.

Grove City trailed by as many as eight, 51-43, in the second half before charging ahead with a 16-2 blitz. Senior guard Joe Capotosta (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) buried a pull-up jumper with eight minutes left to tie the game at 51. A minute later, Gerber hit a three-pointer to put Grove City ahead to stay. O'Keefe then capped the run with a three-point play.

The Wolverines also shot 16 of 19 (84 percent) at the line in the second half. Thomas More (6-7, 3-2 PAC), meanwhile, made just seven of 18 foul shots.

Thomas More outscored Grove City 18-7 over the final 6:38 of the first half to take a 32-25 halftime lead. The Saints made seven of 13 three-point attempts in the first half.

Johnny Bovard led the Saints with 15 points while Eddie Brown and Romell Salone both had 12 points. Thomas More out-rebounded Grove City, 39-32.

For the game, Thomas More shot 23 of 60 (38 percent) from the field while Grove City shot 25 of 49 (51 percent).

The Wolverines will host PAC rival Bethany Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
