Bearcats top Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa -- The Grove City College men's basketball team fell to 10-6 overall Saturday afternoon with a 71-57 home setback against Saint Vincent in the Grove City College Arena.

Saint Vincent (12-3) charged out to a 34-24 lead by halftime and withstood Grove City's comeback efforts in the second half. Grove City eventually cut the lead to 55-50 with 6:29 left on a layup from sophomore center Andy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry). However, Saint Vincent countered with an 11-0 run that effectively clinched the win. Saint Vincent guard Joey Butler sparked the run with a three-point play and a three-point goal.

Butler led all scorers with 26 points, including a 6-for-9 shooting effort from three-point territory.

Grove City shot 13 of 22 (59 percent) from the field in the second half. For the game, Grove City shot 21 of 42 (50 percent). Saint Vincent made 47 percent (25 of 53) of its field-goal attempts.

Junior guard Ryan Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) led Grove City with 18 points while O'Keefe added 10. Senior forward Bobby Turner (New Castle, Pa./Laurel) pulled in a team-leading six rebounds. Saint Vincent owned a 31-25 edge on the glass. Grove City mustered just two offensive rebounds in the game.

Tre'sor Kalambay added 14 points off the bench for Saint Vincent. Kalambay hit four of the Bearcats' 12 three-point goals. Grove City went 2 for 9 behind the three-point line.

Saturday's game does not count in the Presidents' Athletic Conference standings as Saint Vincent is a provisional member of NCAA Division III.

Grove City will visit Thiel Wednesday night at 8 p.m. in PAC play.
