Grove City falls at Bethany

BETHANY, W. Va. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team fell to 7-3 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Wednesday night as host Bethany (15-8, 9-1 PAC) earned a 78-61 win over the visiting Wolverines at Hummel Field House.

Bethany shot 15 of 35 (43 percent) from behind the three-point line en route to the victory. The Bison led 35-22 at the half and maintained their double-digit lead in the second half.

Freshman center Kris Verderber (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) led Grove City with a career-high 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting. As a team, Grove City shot 24 of 54 (44 percent) from the field. The Wolverines made just two of 15 three-point attempts, however. Bethany, meanwhile, shot 43 percent (26 of 60) for the game.

Tyler Morando led Bethany with 17 points, including five three-point goals. Seven different Bethany players made at least one three-pointer. Joe Testa added 14 points and 13 rebounds. Bethany out-rebounded Grove City, 40-30.

Senior guard Ryan Gerber (Baltic, Ohio/Garaway) added nine points while senior guard Joe Capotosta (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) chipped in with seven points. Both team committed 11 turnovers.

Grove City can clinch the No. 2 seed in the season-ending PAC Championship Tournament with a victory over visiting Waynesburg Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. Bethany has clinched the top seed in the tournament by virtue of Wednesday's win over the Wolverines.
