Grove City falls at Saint Vincent, 68-64

LATROBE, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team fell to 15-9 overall Wednesday night with a 68-64 setback at Saint Vincent in a clash of Presidents' Athletic Conference teams at the Carey Center. Saint Vincent extended its win to 13 straight games.

Grove City fell behind 12-2 in the first half but eventually forged a 30-30 tie at the first-half buzzer as senior guard Shawn Carr (New Castle, Pa./MohawK) drilled a three-point goal from the top of the key.

Grove City then took a 43-35 lead in the second half but Saint Vincent (21-3) rallied. Billy Bains' three-pointer with two minutes left gave the Bearcats the lead for good at 61-60.

Junior guard Ryan Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) fired in a season-high 24 points for Grove City while senior forward Bobby Turner (New Castle, Pa./Laurel) added 13 on 6-of-7 shooting. Carr finished with 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Grove City shot 22 of 50 (44 percent) from the field for the game while limiting the Bearcats to just 38 percent accuracy (21 of 56). Grove City also owned a 35-33 edge in rebounding. However, the Wolverines committed 26 turnovers while Saint Vincent had just 16.

Ian McCollough led the Bearcats with 27 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Bains fired in 13. Saint Vincent improved to 12-0 at the Carey Center this year. Saint Vincent is a provisional member of NCAA Division III, thus, its games against conference foes do not count in the league standings.

Grove City will conclude the 2007-08 regular season Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. against visiting Thiel in the Grove City College Arena.
