Grove City clips Altoona, 70-64

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team improved to 2-1 overall Tuesday night with a 70-64 home win over Penn State Altoona (2-2) in non-conference action at the Grove City College Arena. It is Grove City's second straight victory.

Junior center Andy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) paced Grove City with 14 points while junior forward Ryan King (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) fired in a career-high 13 points on 5-of-5 shooting. Senior forward John Scheller (Frisco, Texas/Hoover, Ohio) added 10 points for the Wolverines.

Grove City trailed 23-13 midway through the second half before taking the lead for good with a 17-1 run. O'Keefe scored the first six points of the run while King followed with two three-point goals. Sophomore guard Dan DiNinno (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) closed the run with a three-pointer. The Wolverines led 34-30 at halftime and extended the lead to 50-37 with 11:39 left in the game.

King, Scheller and freshman forward Drew Vandermeer (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) all grabbed a game-high six rebounds, helping Grove City own a 38-20 edge on the glass. The Wolverines also shot 54 percent (21 of 39) from the field. Penn State Altoona shot 24 of 60 (40 percent). The Lions opened the game 10-for-14, however.

Penn State Altoona committed just six turnovers whereas Grove City had 19 turnovers. Grove City went 23 of 28 (82 percent) at the foul line while the Lions went 8 for 11. Colin Geiger led Penn State Altoona with 19 points while Curtis Geiger tossed in 15.

Grove City is now 9-2 in home openers under head coach Steve Lamie. The Wolverines also own an 8-1 all-time series lead against Penn State Altoona.

Grove City will open Presidents' Athletic Conference play Monday, December 1 against visiting Washington & Jefferson at 8 p.m.
