Hiram tops Grove City, 66-56

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team fell to 5-2 overall Wednesday night with a 66-56 setback against visiting Hiram in non-conference action at the Grove City College Arena. Grove City had won five consecutive games entering Wednesday's game.

Grove City held Hiram (4-2) to just 36 percent shooting (21 of 58) from the field. However, Hiram owned a 40-29 rebounding edge, including 17 offensive rebounds.

Hiram took control of the game with a 20-7 run midway through the second half that extended the Terriers' lead to 54-39. Hiram maintained a double-digit lead down the stretch.

Senior guard Ryan Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) led Grove City with 12 points while junior center Andy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) added 10 points. The Wolverines shot 19 of 44 (43 percent) from the field for the game.

Chris Roberts led Hiram with 17 points while Nick Russo added 15 on 5-of-10 three-point shooting. Ian Pfouts had 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Grove City led for much of the first half but Hiram eventually tied the game at 23-23 by halftime. Each of the previous three meetings between the teams had gone to overtime.

Grove City will return to action Dec. 30-31 at the McDonald's of Bluffton Tournament in Bluffton, Ohio.
