Westminster tops Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team fell to 10-7 overall and 4-3 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Thursday night with a 78-57 home setback against Westminster in PAC action at the Grove City College Arena.

Westminster (6-13, 5-2 PAC) shot 58 percent (15 of 26) from the field in the second half, including a 10-for-18 effort on three-point goals. Grove City, which led 30-29 at halftime, shot just 34 percent (11 of 32) from the field over the final 20 minutes.

Grove City led by as many as five in the second half. Grove City led 41-37 with 16:52 left when Westminster took control of the game with a 15-1 run. The Titans hit five three-point goals during the stretch in taking the lead for good. Grove City trimmed the lead to 54-49 on a three-point play by junior center Andy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) but another run by Westminster -- this one a 19-3 spurt -- sealed the win.

Grove City did not make a field goal during a six-minute stretch late in the second half.

O'Keefe led Grove City with 16 points while junior forward Ryan King (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) added 10 points. Senior forward John Scheller (Frisco, Texas/North Canton, Ohio) tossed in nine points on 4-of-5 shooting. Scheller also grabbed a team-high five rebounds.

Bobby Glass led Westminster with 18 points. Ryne Murray added 12 points and pulled in a career-high 22 rebounds. Murray helped Westminster claim a 38-34 edge on the glass. Westminster had 12 turnovers while Grove City had 11 turnovers.

Grove City entered the game ranked eighth nationally in three-point shooting at 41.9 percent. However, Grove City shot 2 of 15 on three-pointers against Westminster.

Grove City will visit Washington & Jefferson Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in PAC action.
