Grove City falls in OT

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team fell to 1-2 overall Saturday evening with an 82-72 overtime setback against host Juniata in the championship game of the Juniata College Doc Greene Tournament at Memorial Gymnasium.

Grove City jumped out to a 12-3 lead in the first half as senior guard Joe McCoy (Newark, Ohio/Newark) fired in three early three-pointers. However, Juniata (2-1) rallied to forge a 27-27 tie by halftime.

In the second half, the Wolverines bolted to a 33-27 lead and eventually built a 57-50 lead with five minutes remaining. Juniata tied the game at 65 with 25 seconds left in regulation on Mike Walker's three-point goal.

In overtime, Juniata outscored Grove City 10-1 over the final 1:38 to seal the win.

McCoy and junior forward Luke Tomaselli (Cresson, Pa./Penn Cambria) both registered 14 points for Grove City while senior center Andy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) added 12 points. McCoy pulled down six boards while sophomore guard Brett Matson (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) finished with six assists.

Alex Raymond led Juniata with 20 points. Juniata owned a 41-32 edge on the glass. Grove City shot 43 percent (26 of 60) from the field while Juniata made 27 of 63 (43 percent) attempts.

Grove City will visit Penn State Beaver Tuesday night at 8 p.m. in non-conference action.
