Wolverines top Kenyon, 79-68

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team fired in a season-high 13 three-point goals Tuesday night en route to a 79-68 victory over visiting Kenyon (3-6) in non-conference action at the Grove City College Arena.

Junior forward Luke Tomaselli (Cresson, Pa./Penn Cambria) fired in a career-high 20 points for Grove City (5-4) while senior guard Joe McCoy (Newark, Ohio/Newark) drained five three-pointers as part of a 16-point outing. Senior center Andy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) also poured in 16 points.

Grove City led 42-40 at halftime and broke the game open with a 19-2 run to start the second half. McCoy hit a pair of three-pointers during the run while senior guard Andrew DiDonato (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) added a three-pointer and a tip-in. Kenyon whittled the lead down to 62-52 but an O'Keefe layup and a Tomaselli three-pointer helped keep Kenyon at bay.

Kenyon jumped out to a 14-7 lead in the first half as guard J.T. Knight hit three consecutive three-point goals. However, Tomaselli and sophomore forward Drew Vandermeer (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) both hit three-pointers to give Grove City a 32-27 lead.

Grove City shot 13 of 21 (62 percent) on three-point attempts. Overall, the Wolverines made 26 of 49 (53 percent) shots from the field. Kenyon finished the game 25 of 59 (42 percent) from the field, including an 11-for-32 effort (34 percent) in the second half. Kenyon shot 8 for 16 on three-pointers in the first half but made just one of 11 attempts in the second half.

Knight led Kenyon with 27 points while Dave Knapke added 26. Knapke also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

O'Keefe pulled in eight rebounds and had four assists. Sophomore guard Brett Matson (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) also had four assists. Each team had 31 rebounds. Grove City had 14 turnovers while Kenyon committed 13 turnovers.

Grove City is off until December 29 when the Wolverines visit Marietta in the semifinals of the Marietta College Shrine Classic.
