Thiel tops Grove City

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team dropped to 3-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Saturday afternoon as host Thiel (6-7, 2-2 PAC) earned an 86-53 win over the Wolverines in conference action at Rissell-Beeghly Gymnasia. Thiel used a 14-2 run early in the second half to break the game open.

Senior center Andy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) paced Grove City (8-6) with 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Junior forward Luke Tomaselli (Cresson, Pa./Penn Cambria) and senior guard Joe McCoy (Newark, Ohio/Newark) both pumped in 11 points each for the Wolverines.

Grove City jumped out to a 5-0 lead as McCoy hit a three-pointer off the opening tip and then followed with a backdoor layup. Thiel took the lead, 16-15, at the 13:00 mark on a Blair Rozenblad basket. The Tomcats then extended the lead to 40-31 by halftime.

For the game, Grove City shot 41 percent (17 of 42) from the field while Thiel converted 28 of 52 (54 percent) field-goal attempts. Thiel also owned a 33-16 edge on the glass.

Devon Adams drained six three-point goals as part of a 23-point effort for Thiel. Rozenblad added 15 points. McCoy grabbed four rebounds for Grove City. The Wolverines went 16 for 22 (73 percent) at the foul line while Thiel made 23 of 33 (70 percent) free throws.

Grove City hosts Geneva Wednesday at 8 p.m.
