Grove City falls to Westminster

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team concluded the 2010-11 regular season Saturday afternoon with a 66-49 home setback against Westminster in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Arena.

Three Grove City players scored in double figures Saturday. Senior forward Luke Tomaselli (Cresson, Pa./Penn Cambria) led Grove City with 13 points and a career-high 15 points. Junior center Kris Verderber (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) added 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting while sophomore forward Steve Battaglia (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted Falls) pumped in 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting.

Westminster (7-18, 3-11 PAC) led 33-24 at halftime and opened the second half on a 14-2 run.

Grove City 37 percent (19 of 51) from the field while Westminster converted 25 of 65 (38 percent) shots. Westminster owned a 40-38 edge in rebounds. Anthony Thomas led Westminster with 21 points and 10 rebounds. The Titans had seven turnovers while Grove City had 14 turnovers.

Grove City honored Tomaselli and senior guard Bryn Moran (Columbus, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) prior to the game as part of Senior Day festivities.

The Wolverines (5-20, 2-12 PAC) will be the No. 7 seed in next week's conference tournament. Grove City will face Saint Vincent at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the quarterfinals.
