Wolverines fall in OT

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team dropped an 87-83 overtime decision to visiting Bethany Saturday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Arena.

Bethany (5-1, 2-0 PAC) forced overtime when guard Reece Mabery scored a putback with two seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 75. In overtime, consecutive baskets by Mabery gave the Bison an 83-79 lead with 45 seconds left. The Bison then went 4 for 4 at the foul line in the closing moments to seal the win.

Grove City trailed 65-50 with 11 minutes left in regulation before assembling a 20-4 blitz that put the Wolverines ahead. Sophomore guard Mitch Marmelstein (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's) hit a pair of three-pointers during the run while sophomore guard J.T. Schwartz (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) added a three-pointer and a pair of baskets. Marmelstein's free throw with 3:47 left put Grove City up 70-69.

Four Grove City players scored in double figures, led by Marmelstein with a season-high 26 points. Sophomore guard Christian Durbin (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) and freshman center Mark Pilarski (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) both added 12 points and Schwartz finished with 10 points.

Pilarski had eight rebounds and Durbin recorded six boards, helping Grove City own a 37-35 edge on the glass. Durbin dished out six assists.

Grove City shot 53 percent (32 of 61) from the field while Bethany went 31 of 66 (47 percent). Grove City turned over the ball 12 times while Bethany had just seven turnovers.

Mabery led Bethany with 21 points. Nick Wilcox added 18 points and seven rebounds.

Grove City (0-5, 0-2) will visit conference foe Waynesburg Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
