Grove City drops OT decision

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team dropped a 74-71 overtime decision to Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Saint Vincent (7-2, 3-0 PAC) Saturday afternoon in the Grove City College Arena.

Grove City had three opportunities to tie the game in the final 11 seconds of overtime but three-point attempts by sophomore guards Mitch Marmelstein (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's), Christian Durbin (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) and Josh Patterson (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) all missed.

The Wolverines trailed 62-55 with 3:48 left in regulation but eventually pulled even at 63 when senior forward Nate Rambacher (Newmanstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon) drilled two foul shots with 42 seconds remaining. Rambacher led Grove City with a career-high 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting.

Grove City led by as many as nine, 33-24, in the first half and held a 35-27 halftime lead. Saint Vincent rallied in the second half and took its first lead of the period, 48-47, when Isaac Turner hit a three-pointer with 10 minutes left.

Marmelstein posted a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double for the Wolverines and freshman center Mark Pilarski (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) added nine points. Durbin tallied eight points and a game-high four assists.

Turner led Saint Vincent with 21 points and Grant Latus posted 19 points and 16 rebounds. Saint Vincent owned a 44-40 rebound edge. The Bearcats had 10 turnovers for the game while Grove City turned over the ball just nine times.

Grove City held Saint Vincent to a 23-for-61 (38 percent) effort from the field. Grove City shot 40 percent (27 of 67) from the floor. Saint Vincent converted 21 of 34 free-throw attempts while the Wolverines made 12 of 14.

Grove City will visit Oberlin Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in non-conference action.
