Waynesburg slips past Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team dropped a 69-59 decision to visiting Waynesburg Wednesday night in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Arena.

Grove City trailed 49-40 with 11 minutes remaining but rallied to tie the game at 53. Freshman guard Isaiah Reeves (Pittsburgh, Pa./Perry) started the comeback with a three-pointer and sophomore guard J.T. Schwartz (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) added a pair of field goals. Junior guard Evan Schell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oliver) tied the game with a short jumper in the lane at the 5:25 mark.

However, Waynesburg (8-11, 3-7 PAC) outscored Grove City (6-12, 3-7) 16-6 down the stretch.

Schwartz led Grove City with 13 points and sophomore guard Mitch Marmelstein (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's) added 11 points. Both men also had a team-high five rebounds.

For the game, Grove City shot 40 percent (21 of 53) from the field. Waynesburg converted 23 of 53 (43 percent) shots from the floor.

Waynesburg jumped out to a 10-2 lead. Grove City rebounded to take its first lead, 17-15, midway through the first half on a three-pointer from sophomore guard Josh Patterson (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette). Patterson finished with eight points.

Jason Propst led Waynesburg with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Waynesburg outrebounded Grove City 34-29. Grove City had 11 turnovers and Waynesburg turned over the ball 10 times.

The Wolverines visit Bethany Saturday at 4 p.m. in conference action.
