Wolverines Win West Penn Opener, 74-59

GROVE CITY, PA, November 19, 1999--An 11-0 run at the 13-minute mark of the second half sparked a 74-59 Wolverine victory over visiting Carnegie Mellon in the season-opening 1999 West Penn Tip-Off Classic.

Swingman Shane Meling (Slippery Rock, PA/Slippery Rock) and guard Chris Kreider (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin), a transfer from Mansfield, led the way for Grove City with 19 and 18 points, respectively.  Kreider highlighted the 11-0 run with five points, one steal, one assist and a rebound.

Kreider and guard Dave Pifer (Sarver, PA/Freeport) shared the team-lead in rebounds with eight apiece.  Forwards Dan Quinn (Uniontown, OH/Green) and Tanner Prosser (Brentwood, PA/Brentwood) had six boards each.

Guard David Stiansen (Telford, PA/Souderton) chipped in with nine points, going 3-for-3 from outside the three-point arc. 

The Wolverines outshot CMU in the second half, 55% to 31% and for the game, 47% to 36%.
