Wolverines Break Out in Bluffton

BLUFFTON, OH, December 29, 1999--Dan Quinn (Uniontown, OH/Green) scored a career-high 24 points to lead four Wolverines in double figures as Grove City snapped a six-game skid with an 89-81 win over Mount Union in the first round of the McDonald's of Bluffton Tournament in Bluffton, OH.

The Wolverines improved to 2-6 and will play tournament host Bluffton in Thursday's championship game at 8:00 p.m.   The Beavers advanced to the title game with an 89-86 win over North Central (IL).  Mount Union of the Ohio Athletic Conference dropped to 4-6.

Quinn buried 8 of 10 shots from the floor and hit 8 of 10 from the free-throw line as the Wolverines shot 61% from the field and 76% from the stripe.   They came into the game shooting 44% (FG) and 57% (FT).

Damon Finazzo (Erie, PA/McDowell) added 15 points, Shane Meling (Slippery Rock, PA/Slippery Rock) had 11 (9-11 FT) and Chris Kreider (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) had 10 points and five assists in his first start as a Wolverine.  Dave Pifer (Sarver, PA/Freeport) and Andy Vlajkovich (Canfield, OH/Canfield) drilled a pair of three-pointers and finished with eight points apiece.

Tanner Prosser (Brentwood, PA/Brentwood) grabbed a team-high seven boards.

The Purple Raiders were led by Ron Powers's 27 points, which included seven threes.

Grove City trailed by as many as six points in the first half before taking the lead for good, 43-40, at halftime. 

The last time the Wolverines scored 89 points in a game was December 5, 1998 in a 90-54 win over Hilbert.
