Grove City nets six goals, advances to PAC semis

GROVE CITY, PA, November 1, 2000--The Wolverine soccer team outshot visiting Thiel 38-0 and won the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament preliminary game, 6-0, on Wednesday.

Fourth-seeded Grove City, now 10-8-1 overall, will advance to Friday's semifinals against top-seeded Bethany.  The game is slated for a 2:30 p.m. start in Bethany, WV.

The Wolverines scored three goals in each half, posting their first six-goal outburst since September 21, 1998 against Thiel.

Senior sweeper Sean Norris (Edgeworth, PA/Quaker Valley), who last scored as a sophomore, spent most of the day in the offensive zone and accounted for the Wolverines' first two goals.  Norris' first tally came in 15th minute off a pass from senior Mike Koerber (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield).  His second goal was unassisted in the 25th minute.

Koerber added two more points, assisting on Steve Harley's (Collegeville, PA/Methacton) goal in the 30th minute and setting up junior Jon Veschio (Mercer, PA/Mercer), whose goal in the 58th minute made it 4-0.

Senior Cory Nordman (St. Charles, IL/New Fairfield) and freshman Joe Shockey (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) tacked on unassisted goals in the 67th and 83rd minutes, respectively.  For Nordman, it marked his team-leading seventh goal of the season.
