Jank, Riley earn CoSIDA Academic All-District

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Two Grove City College student-athletes recently earned Division III At-Large Academic All-District honors from Capital One and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) through voting by the region's sports information directors. Sophomore multi-sport performer Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) earned First Team in the Women's At-Large program while senior tennis player Peter Riley (Woodbury, Pa./Northern Bedford) earned First Team Men's At-Large.

Both Jank and Riley now advance to the nationwide Academic All-America ballot. The At-Large Academic All-America teams will be announced in early June.

Jank competed for both Grove City's swimming and diving and women's water polo team during the 2014-15 academic year. In swimming, Jank capped the season by earning All-America honors in the 800 free relay at the NCAA Division III Championships in Houston, Texas. Jank helped the Wolverines place 14th in that event, securing her second career All-America honor.

Jank also helped Grove City earn Presidents' Athletic Conference titles in the 200, 400 and 800 free relays at the James E. Longnecker Invitational in February. She earned First Team All-PAC for the second straight season.

In water polo, Jank scored 20 goals and recorded 20 assists in 13 matches for Grove City. She earned Second Team All-Tournament honors at the Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III Championships in April after helping Grove City take fourth in the eight-team tournament. Jank captured All-CWPA Division III recognition after her freshman season in 2014.

Jank has earned a 3.89 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in elementary education. She has been named to the Presidents' Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll and the College's Dean's List.

Riley earned Academic All-District honors for the second straight year. He captured Presidents’ Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors for the third time in his career April 25 at the conference championships in Erie, Pa. Riley won conference titles at first singles and first doubles while helping Grove City earn its 25th consecutive conference title, along with an invitation to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.

He also earned the league’s Player of the Year award in 2012 and 2014 after winning the conference’s No. 1 singles title in those seasons. He captured conference titles at first doubles in 2012 and 2014 as well.

This year, Riley went 10-3 at first singles and also posted 10-4 mark in the No. 1 doubles slot. For his career, he went 44-10 in singles play and 48-17 in doubles action.

Earlier this month, the College named Riley as its Sportsman of the Year for the 2014-15 academic year.

An English/French double major, Riley achieved a 3.58 cumulative GPA while majoring in English and French. Riley has earned Dean’s List honors as well as placement on the conference’s Academic Honor Roll. He has also received the College’s “Scholar Athlete” award.

The at-large program includes athletes from the following sports: fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo and wrestling.

The 2014-15 academic year marks the fourth year that CoSIDA has based its Academic All-America program on individual divisions within college athletics. Currently, CoSIDA honors student-athletes in NCAA Divisions I, II and III, along with a "College" division that includes NAIA institutions and junior colleges.

Grove City is now part of District IV for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program. District IV includes all of the NCAA Division III programs in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 or higher cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
