Grove City trio named Players of the Week

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Three Grove City College fall student-athletes have been honored by the Presidents' Athletic Conference as Players of the Week in their respective sports for events contested from October 13-19, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.

Junior Emily Rabenold (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) was named the PAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week after a strong performance at the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble while senior goalkeeper Kristi Lathrop (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) and junior goalkeeper Ben Weaver (York, Pa./Dallastown) were named Defensive Players of the Week for women's and men's soccer, respectively.

Rabenold earned her fourth weekly conference honor of the season after posting a sixth-place individual finish out of 341 runners at Oberlin. Her time of 22:19.1 was the second-fastest in the conference this season and ranks among the 25 fastest six-kilometer times in program history.

Grove City's men's and women's cross country teams return to action on Saturday, November 1 at the 2014 Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships at Bethany.

Lathrop earned her first honor of the season after leading the Wolverines to a 2-0 week in conference play. After recording one save in 72:40 of action in Wednesday's 4-0 win at Geneva, Lathrop stopped six shots in a complete-game, 3-0 shutout win over Washington in Jefferson on Saturday. It marked the 11th complete-game shutout of Lathrop's career, giving her a share of the all-time record at the College in that category.

With five consecutive shutout victories, Lathrop has lowered her goals against average to 0.99 and raised her save percentage to 0.833, both of which rank third in the conference.

The Wolverine women's soccer team (6-8-1, 5-0 PAC) visits Chatham on Wednesday in a 7:30 p.m. match that will be contested at Carnegie Mellon.

Weaver also posted a 2-0 week in goal, notching complete-game shutouts against Geneva and W&J. He posted a clean slate while facing eight shots in a 1-0 win at Geneva on Wednesday night before making five saves in Saturday's 2-0 win over the Presidents.

On the season, Weaver owns a 1.05 goals agaisnt average with four complete-game shutouts and two combined shutouts. He ranks second in the conference in shutouts and is third in GAA.

Grove City men's soccer (9-4-1, 4-1 PAC) steps away from conference play for the final time this season when they host NAIA #22 Point Park on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
