Wolverine hurlers shine in split

BETHANY, WV, April 12, 2000--League front-runners Grove City (8-9, 8-4 PAC) and Bethany (19-15, 8-4 PAC) split a pivotal doubleheader Wednesday as both schools vie for the top seed at next week's Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Baseball Tournament.   The Wolverines won the first game, 5-3, but lost the nightcap, 1-0.

J.G. Louden (Morgantown, WV/University) scattered 10 hits and allowed just two earned runs in the victory.  Louden struck out three in seven complete innings and improved to 4-1 on the season. 

The Wolverines led 3-0 in the middle of the fourth, then went up 4-1 in the sixth on a solo home run by LF Eric Bell (Grove City, PA/Grove City) -- his first collegiate tater.  Bell also singled to finish 2-for-3 with two runs scored.   CF Adam Booth (Hartville, OH/Lake), SS Mike Kashurba (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) and C Jeff Conaway (Freeport, PA/Freeport) each contributed a pair of singles as Grove City banged out 12 hits.

Justin Magee (Grove City, PA/Grove City) tossed a three-hit gem in game two, but fell to 1-3 on the year as the Wolverines' managed just four hits of their own. Magee fanned two and didn't walk a batter in seven complete.

1B Drew Hoagland (Butler, PA/Knoch) cracked a double for GCC, his fourth of the season and the only extra-base hit of the game.
