GROVE CITY, PA, April 11, 2002 -- Senior 1B Drew Hoagland (Butler, PA/Knoch) pulled Grove City within one run on a RBI single in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough as Westminster held on for a 3-2 victory in the second game of a double header.
Sophomore right hander Jake Cuthbert (Belle Vernon, PA/Belle Vernon) fired a complete game three hitter and struck out seven but absorbed the loss for Grove City. Freshman 3B John Mycyk (Pittsburgh, PA/Shady Side Academy) scored both runs for the Wolverines. Senior CF Eric Bell (Grove City, PA/Grove City) plated the other run with a sacrifice fly in the third.
In the first game, Westminster used five Wolverine errors to score six unearned runs in the first four frames to make a hard luck loser of sophomore starter Greg Grupp (Harmony, PA/Slippery Rock). Hoagland hit a two run homer to left center in the sixth to provide the scoring for the Wolverines in the 8-2 loss. Junior C Matt Skipper (Canton, OH/Canton South) continued to swing the bat well with a 2-3 day at the plate.
Grove City hosts Bethany tomorrow with a chance to get to .500 in the PAC on the line. Probable starters are Matt Kearney and Mike Gundy as the Wolverines look for a season sweep of the Bison.
