Bison guard hits eight threes in win over Wolverines

GROVE CITY, PA, January 17, 2001--Bethany guard Nevada Smith buried 8 of 11 three-pointers and finished with a game-high 32 points as the Bison recovered from an 11-0 deficit to defeat host Grove City, 75-54, on opening night in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.

Grove City (9-6, 0-1) had won 10 straight games against Bethany (8-6, 1-0) and seven in a row at home, dating back to last year, before tonight.

Junior Chris Kreider (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) led three Wolverines in double-figures with 14 points.  Freshman Jim Fetzner (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) tossed in 11, while junior Dan Quinn (Uniontown, OH/Green) posted a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.  Junior Pat Roberts (Home, PA/Marion Center) grabbed 10 boards.

The Wolverines were stymied by 36.5% shooting from the floor, including a 6-for-23 clip (26.1%) from three-point range.

Bethany led 34-27 at halftime and owned a double-digit lead for 11 minutes in the second half before Grove City trimmed the gap to eight, 59-51, with 5:17 left to play.  The Bison, however, closed the game with a 16-3 run to assume a share of first place in the PAC.
