Grove City downs Hiram

HIRAM, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team improved to 7-1 Saturday afternoon with a 151-123 win over host Hiram in a non-conference dual meet. It is Grove City's seventh consecutive victory.

Three Grove City competitors posted a pair of victories Saturday. Sophomore diver Kyle Grubbs (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) swept the diving events while classmate Lincoln Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) swept the breaststroke. Junior Tim Whitbeck (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) swept the sprints.

Grubbs won 1-meter diving with 213.05 points, then captured the 3-meter title with 220.35 points. Larsen won the 100-meter breaststroke in 1 minute, 11.14 seconds, then took the 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2:34.69. Whitbeck won the 50-meter free with a 23.61 clocking then followed with a pool record performance in the 100 free by going 53.66.

Freshman Cam Coppelli (Guys Mills, Pa./Saegertown) won the 100-meter backstroke in 1:03.57. Coppelli, Larsen, senior Nick Barker (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's County) and junior Drew Snyder (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:52.57.

Coppelli, Snyder, Whitbeck and junior Peter Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) sealed the win by winning the 400 free relay in a pool record time of 3:38.54.

Grove City returns to action January 19, 2008 against visiting Washington & Jefferson when they will honor the 2008 Men's Swimming and Diving 2008 Hall of Fame Inductees.
