Wolverines sweep quad meet

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team recorded three victories Saturday at the Kenyon College Quad Meet. Grove City (5-1) downed Case Western Reserve 192-106. The Wolverines also topped Kenyon 152-137 and seized a 221.5-76.5 win over Washington & Jefferson.

Senior diver Kyle Grubbs (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) and sophomore Ben Bowser (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) paced Grove City by earning two wins each Saturday. Grubbs won 1-meter diving with 253.05 points, then won on the 3-meter board with 255.90 points.

Bowser won the 100 butterfly in 53.18 seconds and then took first in the 200 individual medley in 1:59.15. Bowser joined junior Cam Coppelli (Guys Mills, Pa./Saegertown), sophomore Clay Beckner (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) and sophomore Kirk Gagliardo (Wadsworth, Ill./Warren Township) on Grove City's victorious 200 medley relay. That quartet posted a time of 1:38.04.

Senior Lincoln Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.07). He added a runner-up finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:16.46).

Beckner took second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.14 while sophomore Josh Kim (Frederick, Md./New Life Christian) placed second in the 500 (4:57.30). Sophomore diver Joe Rzempoluch (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) placed second on the 1-meter board with 195.68 points.

Grove City is off until hosting the annual James E. Longnecker Invitational December 4-5.
