9: McRae crushes PR to break school 8K record, qualify for NCAA
Championships
With four of the top 15 times in school
history and four All-PAC citations, including a pair of First Team
honors, to his credit, senior Arleigh McRae had already established
himself as one of the top cross country runners in Wolverine history
heading into the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships on November 16,
2013.
On that day, McRae erased any doubt, knocking just over 30 seconds off
his previous career-best time to establish a new Grove City College
record in the 8K race with a 15th-place time of 25:08.70. With that
time, McRae was named to the All-Mideast Region Team and qualified to
the NCAA National Championships for the first time in his career.
McRae's time broke former Wolverine standout Garret Cichowitz's record
of 25:13.30, which was set on the same course at the 2009 NCAA Mideast
Regional. He would go on to finish 103rd out of 275 runners at the NCAA
Championships with a time of 25:54.90 to conclude his career with six of
the top 17 8K times in program history.
