Game Box

GROVE CITY, PA, May 2, 2001--Three Lady Wolverine seniors reached base safely in their final game as Grove City (7-15) closed its 2001 season with an 8-3 loss to visiting Westminster (31-11) Wednesday afternoon.

Seniors Megan Wittenwyler (Des Moines, IA/Dowling) and Jessie Renaldo (Brookville, PA/Brookville), both three-year letterwinners, collected singles and first-year senior Kristina Dixon (Smethport, PA/Smethport) drew a base on balls.  Each were honored in a brief ceremony prior to the first pitch.

Westminster led 3-0 after two innings and went ahead 6-1 in the middle of the fifth en route to its school-record 31st victory of the season.

Seven Lady Wolverines combined for nine hits paced by freshmen Allison Atwood (Warren, PA/Warren) and Molly Forney (Annville, PA/Annville-Cleona), who had two hits apiece.  Forney doubled home Atwood with Grove City's first run in the third inning and sacrificed Atwood home in the fifth with a fly ball to center field.  Sophomore Ellie Smith (Grove City, PA/Grove City) accounted for the other run, scoring on an errant pick-off attempt.

Junior Laura LeVake (Faribault, MN/Faribault) went the distance for GCC, surrendering eight runs (six earned) on 10 hits, while striking out seven and walking none.
