Grove City places 3rd at GCC Invitational/PAC Championships

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team placed third in the Grove City College Invitational and Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships Saturday night at the Grove City College Pool, finishing with 707 team points.

Westminster (798 points) repeated as champion while Washington and Jefferson (751) finished second. 

Senior Peggy Whitbeck (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown), junior Christine Bare (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) and freshman diver Emily Hays (Seaville, N.J./Ocean City) each picked up individual wins. Whitbeck repeated as 200 butterfly champion (2:04.46) and earned both the conference MVP award and the Invitational's High Point Award.  

Bare set a new Presidents' Athletic Conference record in winning the 1650 with a time of 18:01.66. Hays won the 3-meter diving competition, finishing one spot ahead of freshman teammate Alexis Zanias (Coplay, Pa./Lehigh Valley Christian).

Bare and Whitbeck joined sophomore Ellen Magee (Cincinnati, Ohio/Homeschooled) and senior Carolyn Shaddak (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) on Grove City's runner-up 400 free relay squad. The quartet surpassed the NCAA Division III "B" qualifying standard in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:38.50 Saturday night.

Junior Jacquie Adlam (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) took second in the 200 breaststroke (2:34.67) while Magee took second in the 100 free (54.86). Shaddak took fifth in the 200 breaststroke while sophomore Amanda Brozenic (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) placed sixth in the 200 breaststroke. Junior Karen Rodgers (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) finished fifth in the 200 butterfly.

Grove City will close the season next Saturday at Case Western Reserve's Last Chance Meet.
