Grove City competes in Allegheny Invitational

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team competed in the Allegheny Distance Invitational at the Wise Center Saturday. The Wolverines placed third in the three-team field with 343 points. Host Allegheny won with 664 points while NCAA Division II Gannon took second with 363 points.

Freshman Kiersten Bower (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) earned Grove City's lone victory by winning the 200 butterfly. Bower posted a time of 2 minutes, 19.50 seconds. Freshman Alyse Brannon (Purcellville, Va./Homeschooled) took third in the 200 backstroke (2:24.74).

Grove City closed the meet with a second-place finish in the 800 free relay as senior Ellen Magee (Cincinnati, Ohio/Homeschooled), senior Jaclyn Bellissimo (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover), sophomore Christie Hebda (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and sophomore Ellen Keefer (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) combined for the runner-up finish in 8:38.95.

Grove City will open its dual-meet schedule next Saturday against visiting Carnegie Mellon at 1 p.m.
