Wolverines split with NCAA Division II foes

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team split a double dual meet with NCAA Division II foes Slippery Rock and Gannon Monday night in the Grove City College Pool. The Wolverines (4-5) earned a 147-111 win over Slippery Rock but dropped a narrow 139-132 decision to Gannon (7-0).

Grove City swept both relay events Monday night. The Wolverines opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay as sophomore Alyse Brannon (Purcellville, Va./Homeschooled), senior Virginia Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist), sophomore Kiersten Bower (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) and junior Ellen Keefer (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) combined for a victorious time of 1 minute, 57.85 seconds.

The Wolverines closed the meet by winning the 800 free in 8:30.64. Keefer, sophomore Whitney Fairchild (Corry, Pa./Corry), sophomore Whitney Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and freshman Jane Wilson (Newberg, Ore./Veritas School) combined for the win.

Keefer won the 200 free in a time of 2:01.05 while Bower won the 200 butterfly in 2:21.09. Wilson swept the sprints, winning both the 50 (24.74) and 100 free (54.67).

It is Grove City's first dual-meet victory over Slippery Rock. The teams had not met in a dual meet prior to Monday night.

The Wolverines will host the annual James E. Longnecker Invitational Dec. 1-2.
