Grove City 3rd after 1st night
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team is in third place after the first night of action at the three-day Grove City College Invitational/Presidents' Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at the Grove City College Pool. Grove City earned 129 team points Thursday night and trails only Westminster (227) and Washington & Jefferson (184).
Freshman Jane Wilson (Newberg, Ore./Veritas School) won the 50 free in a school-record time of 24.04 seconds to help lead the Wolverine effort. She also provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships with that time.
Wilson, sophomore Liza McRuer (Irvine, Calif./University), sophomore Whitney Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and junior Ellen Keefer (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) opened the meet by placing second in the 200 free relay with a 1:39.80 clocking.
Keefer claimed third in the 50 (24.94) while the 400 medley relay team of Wilson, Keefer, sophomore Alyse Brannon (Purcellville, Va./Homeschooled) and senior Virginia Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) placed third third with a time of 4:14.55.
Friday's preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m. with the finals set for 6 p.m.
