Grove City opens season

CLARION, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team opened the 2011-12 season by taking second in the Clarion University Fall Classic. Clarion recorded 176 team points in the meet and Grove City had 167.

Three Wolverine swimmers recorded individual wins. Junior Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College) won the 1650 with a time of 18 minutes, 23.70 seconds while senior Kate Wilt (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) took first in the 200 breaststroke in 2:33.12.

Junior Kait Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) won the 100 butterfly in 1:00.10. Ryan, Riesmeyer, senior Jenna Richert (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) and junior Angela Palumbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) closed the meet by winning the 400 free relay in 3:43.31.

Grove City will begin dual meet competition next Saturday at non-conference foe Allegheny.
