Grove City earns 5th

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Grove City College women's swimming and diving team concluded the three-day Kenyon College Total Performance Invitational Saturday night by finishing fifth in the team standings. Grove City finished the three-day event with 373 team points. Penn won the team title with 1,565 points, followed by Kenyon, Davidson and Carnegie Mellon.

Grove City's 400 free relay team of senior Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College), sophomore Tori Baker (Fairfax, Va./Robinson), senior Kait Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) and senior Angela Palumbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) closed the meet by finishing fifth with a time of 3 minutes, 30.63 seconds. That time surpasses the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III Championships.

Palumbo also provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 100 free with a fifth-place time of 52.14 seconds. Ryan earned fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:09.07) while Riesmeyer provisionally qualified for the national meet in the 100 fly with a seventh-place time of 57.48 seconds.

Palumbo, Riesmeyer, sophomore Lauren Cassano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and junior Kaley Hess (Reamstown, Pa./Cocalico) placed sixth in the 200 medley relay in 1:47.66.

Grove City returns to action January 12 with a Presidents' Athletic Conference dual meet at Washington & Jefferson.
