Wolverines swim at Pitt Quad

PITTSBURGH – The Grove City College women’s swimming and diving team competed in the University of Pittsburgh Quad Saturday at Trees Pool. Grove City went 1-3 at the meet, earning a 145-82 win over NCAA Division II California (Pa.).

Grove City dropped a 153-121 decision to Division II Clarion and also fell to Carnegie Mellon, 194-93. Pitt handed the Wolverines a 241-49 setback.

Senior Angela Palumbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) paced the Wolverines with a pair of runner-up finishes. She took second in the 50 free with a time of 24.60 seconds. Palumbo also took second in the 100 free with a time of 53.47.

Palumbo added a third-place finish in the 200 free (1:56.09) while senior Jenny Ryan (State College, Pa./State College) earned third in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:13.55.

Palumbo, Ryan, senior Kait Riesmeyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) and sophomore Amy Melnik (Clifton Park, N.Y./Homeschooled) closed the meet by taking third in the 200 free relay with a 1:39.13 clocking.

Riesmeyer finished fifth in the 100 butterfly (1:00.01) while sophomore Lauren Cassano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) placed sixth in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.28. Freshman Megan Bilko (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) finished sixth in the 500 (5:24.80).

Grove City returns to action February 13-16 when it hosts the James E. Longnecker Invitational in conjunction with the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championships.
