Wolverines 4th at PAC meet

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team finished fourth at the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships Saturday at the College's Robert E. Thorn Field. Grove City accrued 88.5 team points. Washington & Jefferson repeated as conference champion with 164 points. Westminster took second with 122 points while Thiel finished third at 121.5.

Sophomore Julia Seward (Elizabethton, Tenn./Science Hill) led Grove City's effort with a pair of victories. Seward opened the meet by winning the 10,000 in 40 minutes, 13.54 seconds. She then added a win in the 5000 (18:55.15).

Senior Sarah Bray (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) won the javelin with a throw of 126 feet, 4 inches.

Three Grove City athletes earned runner-up finishes Saturday. Junior Mary Majchrowicz (Sunnyvale, Calif./The King's Academy) took second in the 400 with a time of 58.31 seconds. Junior Candice Coholich (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) finished second in the steeplechase (12:19.31) while sophomore Megan Fellows (Erie, Pa./Iroquois) took second in the discus with a throw of 120-5.

Majchrowicz also finished fourth in the 200 (26.65) while junior Kate Bender (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster Central) finished fourth in the 800 (2:26.72). Sophomore Elizabeth Clymer (Concord, N.H./Concord) crossed fourth in the 1500 (5:28.38) while sophomore Jessica Pennell (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) cleared 9-6 in the pole vault, good for fourth place.

Bray added fifth-place finishes in the shot (31-6 3/4) and discus (104-11). Coholich finished fifth in the 5000 with a time of 19:54.55. Sophomore Sarah Hirsh (Hanover, Pa./South Western) took fifth in the steeplechase with a time of 13:06.65. Senior Ashley Metcalfe (York Harbor, Maine/Portsmouth Christian, N.H.) cleared 4-8 in the high jump to take sixth.

Grove City will conclude the regular season by hosting an invitational Friday afternoon.
