Grove City performs well at The Rock Open

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Junior Emily Rabenold (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) earned a pair of individual victories as the Grove City College women's track and field team posted a strong showing in a difficult field at the Slippery Rock University Open on a rainy Thursday afternoon at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Rabenold opened the day with an ECAC-qualifying time of 11:13.14 to win the 3,000 Steeplechase and then closed her day nearly five hours later with a victorious and ECAC-qualifying time of 18:07.29 in the 5,000. Rabenold also qualified to the ECAC DIII Championships in the 10,000 earlier in the outdoor season.

Junior Eliza Lowe (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) also posted ECAC-qualifying marks in two events, finishing second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:05.50 and placed fourth in the 110 hurdles with a season-best time of 15.28 seconds. Freshman Margi Haiss (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) also added a runner-up finish for the Wolverines, taking second in the discus with a top mark of 35.46m. Haiss's mark is the top discus throw by a Grove City female athlete since 2009.

 Junior Allison Blain (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) finished third individually in the 400 with a time of 1:02.44 and partnered with sophomore Lauren Pearce (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville), junior Adrienne Scrima (Westtown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) and Lowe for a third-place showing in the meet-closing 4x400 relay (4:09.97). Junior Stevie Huston (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) finished fourth in the 1500 (5:05.83) while Pearce added a fifth-place finish in the 400 (1:03.29).

Sophomore (Jackson Center, Pa./Lakeview) led Grove City's jumpers with a third-place mark of 10.32 meters in the triple jump while classmate Katie Hess (Medina, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) placed in all three jumping events, taking fifth in the triple jump (9.89m), tying for fifth in the high jump (1.40m) and placing seventh in the long jump (4.87m).

Sophomore Melanie Packard (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) tied for fifth in the pole vault with a best clearance of 3.20 meters while fellow sophomore Lydia Keiper (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) finished sixth in the 5,000 (19:29.25). Senior Ellie Stoffer (Canfield, Ohio/South Range) added an eighth-place showing in the javelin (31.71m).

Grove City will next compete at the Westminster Invitational on Saturday, April 11.
