Westminster takes two from GCC

NEW WILMINGTON, PA, April 4, 2002--The Grove City College women's softball team dropped a pair of games at Westminster College on Thursday by finals of 3-0 and 7-0.

Sophomore P Allison Atwood (Warren, PA/Warren) struck out seven and scattered six hits in six innings of work in the first game, but Westminster used three runs (one earned) in the bottom of the sixth to post the victory.  Freshman RF Stephanie Briggs (Grove City, PA/Grove City) belted a double to deep left-center field in the fourth inning, accounting for Grove City's only hit against Lady Titan ace Darcy Sutton.  It marked Briggs' second double in as many games.

In the nightcap, Westminster plated three runs in the second and four in the seventh to record the sweep.  Junior CF Ellie Smith (Grove City, PA/Grove City) and sophomore 1B Kassie Hayes (Grove City, PA/Grove City) had two hits apiece for the Lady Wolverines, who out-hit the Lady Titans, 7-6.  

Grove City fell to 1-8 overall, while Westminster improved to 9-7.
